TRANS-firming Social Network

TRANS-firming Peer-led program is a structure that empowers young adult trans folk as leaders, co-creators, and as facilitators. This empowerment can strengthen support networks by building fellowship through shared social networking and activities. The peer led groups are designed as a Young Adult Group (ages 19 thru 25) and Adults Group (30 plus).

The group(s) will meet monthly within spaces vetted as safe and affirming, such as The Mary & Eliza Freeman Center for History and Community Cultural and/or Bridgeport Pride Center Gatherings are free to all. Games, hobbies, arts and crafts activities and other group engagements will be determined by the group’s members. Each gathering will offer light refreshments and non-alcoholic beverages

These program(s) specifically engage transgender, gender-diverse, and LGBTQ+ youth while welcoming allies, creating a safe and inclusive space for self-expression, identity exploration, and peer fellowship.

Each session aims to integrate a fun project with conversations that increase self-awareness and self-affirming confidence while addressing stigma, discrimination, and the social and political challenges faced by youth. Through artistic expression, students gain a deeper understanding of their identities and the intersectionality of these experiences in their daily lives and broader society.
