Our Guiding Principles

  • Living Our Authentic Lives, as a means of peaceful existence within one’s self.

  • Celebrating Inclusiveness, to bring about understanding that our differences aren’t divisive

  • Practicing Conscientious and Purposeful “Inviting In” as means of tearing down cultural barriers and promoting awareness, understanding and affirming attitudes.

  • Education, Empowering others with understanding and compassion

  • Collaboration, Build unity through partnership and peer leadership

OTL’s mission is rooted on five philosophical guiding principles:

Vision/Purpose

OurTransLife.org was conceived to serve the Transgender, Non-Binary and Gender-Nonconforming communities of the Greater Bridgeport Region and beyond. Offering Peer-Led Support Workshops, Supportive and Educational Resources and to act as Public Advocate for our gender diverse community.

OTL’s general operational focus is urban centers, in which the disparity of underserved and under funded services for BIPOC gender diverse communities is exponentially greater on both need and funding.

OTL provides emotional support for the gender diverse community and loved ones, helps to empower them on their journey towards self-love, and helps their loved ones build a bond of trust with empathy and acts of acceptance

Commitment Towards The Future

As legal protections for transgender and gender diverse people, such as safeguards against discrimination in the workplace, housing, the ability to change identification documents, and more are swiftly dismantled, we rely on inclusive education and access to LGBTQ+ resources to educate our community and provide transgender teens with the information, representation, and community they need to help ensure their safety and dignity, creating a safe space to thrive.

OTL’s work is more urgently needed. OTL will continue its mission and uphold its guiding value principles to communities throughout the state.
